The Goblin Comic Library

1000 Goblins

The Book of Murmurs is going into a second print. It is exciting. At TAGS last Saturday I got to talk to some lovely folk about this creature who started life as the Shenk and then grew into something so much bigger than a monster.

My editor asked, “Would you sign a thousand bookplates?”

”Of course!” I replied.

They arrived. A box of little squares that will be tucked into new editions. Tiny stacks of hundreds of cards. My mind ticked like something old and windup. ‘I will draw on them.’ I thought to myself.

The temperature has finally dropped. Storm Austen spins wildly towards us over the Atlantic. The sun was low and golden and very beautiful but it’s long gone now.

The Goblin sleeps while stars dance over their head.

I see the flick books of my childhood. Those first magical illusions. The persistence of vision giving life to things that are not living. What if every plate was a frame of animation?

50 down.

950 to go.

Why couldn’t this be simple? Why did I imagine this and then have to do it? Why am I like this?

Questions I will be asking myself for a long time.

Won’t you join me in this chaos?
